With anticipation for Ramayana continuing to grow, Ranbir Kapoor has shared new insights into the massive scale of Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious retelling of the Hindu epic. The actor, who portrays Lord Rama in the film,
said the story is so expansive that it could have been told across as many as ten films. He also offered an exciting update on Ramayana: Part Two, even as the team prepares for the release of the first instalment this Diwali.
While speaking to The Direct, Ranbir Kapoor reflected on the challenge of adapting one of India’s most revered epics for the big screen. He admitted that fitting the Ramayana into just two films was no easy task. He went on to heap praise on director Nitesh Tiwari and the writers for carefully shaping the vast narrative into a two-part saga while preserving its emotional core and timeless themes. He said, “To be honest, to tell Ramayana, you probably need a 10-part movie, but the kind of conciseness in two parts was very hard.”
Ranbir also dismissed the notion that the Ramayana needed a major reinterpretation to connect with today’s audiences. He said, “I don’t think a story like Ramayana needs that. I think the text has stayed over 4000 years. Lord Rama has been the conscious gatekeeper of millions of people around the world, and I think everything that it talks about courage, good over evil, rightfulness, forgiveness, compassion, ego it’s a life lesson.”
In the same interview, Ranbir spoke about Part 2 and shared an exciting update. He revealed, “We’re already 50% down shooting Part Two even before the first part is released, because it’s a continuing story.” He also teased what audiences can expect from the sequel, saying Ramayana: Part Two will be “even larger” and “more entertaining.” He added that Sunny Deol’s Hanuman will have a much more prominent role in the second instalment.
Ramayana also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, and Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha. The first part will hit theatres on Diwali 2026, while the second installment will release on Diwali 2027.
