Smriti Mandhana entered her name in the history books on Thursday (October 9) by breaking the record of scoring the most runs in a calendar year in women’s ODIs. The left-handed batter needed 12 runs in the ongoing
ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 match between India and South Africa in Visakhapatnam to break Belinda Clark’s record, and she achieved the objective during the eighth over of India’s innings.
On the first ball of the over bowled by Ayabonga Khaka, Mandhana smacked a six down the ground to reach the 13-run mark.
Former Australian captain Clark played 16 matches in 1997 and amassed a total of 970 runs, whereas Mandhana now has 972 runs to her credit in 17 matches.

If Mandhana manages to score at least 41 runs in the ongoing match, then she will become the first women’s cricketer to score 1000 ODI runs in a calendar year.
Smriti has been in red-hot form this year. In India’s three-match ODI series against the Australian team in September 2025, she scored two centuries. In the series decider played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on September 20, 2025, Mandhana completed her century in just 50 balls.
The 29-year-old cricketer from Maharashtra is India’s second-highest run-getter in women’s ODIs, and if she scores at least 81 runs in the ongoing India-South Africa match, then she will also complete 5000 runs in ODIs.
As of now, only four batters have managed to score more than 5000 runs in WODIs. The record for scoring the most runs in women’s ODIs is in the name of former India captain Mithali Raj.
Mithali played 232 matches from 1999 to 2022 and amassed a total of 7805 runs. She is followed by England’s Charlotte Edwards (5992 runs in 191 ODIs), New Zealand’s Suzie Bates (5896 runs in 173 ODIs) and West Indies’ Stafanie Taylor (5873 runs in 170 ODIs).

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur will also have a chance to break a couple of records in the ongoing match.
If she manages to smack at least three maximums against Women in Green, then she will break Deandra Dottin’s record of scoring the most sixes in the Women’s ODI World Cup.
Dottin hammered 22 maximums in 29 matches for the West Indies, whereas Harman has 20 sixes to her credit in 29 matches.
Also if Harman scores 84 runs in the match against South Africa then she will also complete 1000 runs in Women’s ODI World Cup.
