Ranveer Singh is still ruling hearts with his performance in Dhurandhar, and his next film, the post-apocalyptic zombie thriller Pralay directed by Jai Mehta, is generating sky-high excitement. But to
turn Mumbai into a futuristic apocalyptic Zombieland won’t be easy. It is going to be very expensive, but this is exactly what Jai Mehta is eyeing.
Sharing that the film is going to be India’s most expensive Mumbai-based film of all times, a source told Bollywood Hungama, “The entire city’s landscape has to be mapped, and the post-apocalypse scenario has to be structured accordingly. This is the scale of devastation seen in John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place and Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later.”
About Pralay
Pralay also stands out for its genre. Zombie apocalypse narratives, popularised internationally by films such as 28 Days Later, I Am Legend, and World War Z, have largely remained unexplored in Indian mainstream cinema. Unlike Go Goa Gone, which approached zombies with humour, Pralay is expected to adopt a darker, more grounded tone.
Set in a post-apocalyptic Mumbai, the film will reportedly use AI-driven visuals to depict a crumbling, decayed version of the city. The project will be directed by Jai Mehta, son of filmmaker Hansal Mehta, marking his theatrical directorial debut. Jai previously co-directed Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story and Lootere, and is known for his realistic storytelling style.
The film is being co-produced by Hansal Mehta and Sameer Nair’s Applause Entertainment, adding further weight to what is shaping up to be one of the more unconventional Hindi films in development.
