India fast-bowler Mohammed Siraj closed out India’s warm-up clash against Sri Lanka with four sixes, including three back-to-back in the last over of the match to seal the win for his team.
India needed
207 runs in the final innings to win. The final over of the third and final day kicked off with the visitors at 191/4, 16 runs behind the target, with Siraj and all-rounder Saransh Jain at the crease. This being a warm-up game, several top and middle-order batters had retired after facing a few deliveries each.
Off-spinner WK Nuwantha looped the first ball of the over on the middle-stump, and Siraj thumped it over deep mid-wicket. The next ball was even fuller and outside the off-stump, and Siraj tonked it down the wicket this time for another six. The third ball was similarly full and straight and found another huge six off the bat of the Hyderabadi pacer.
In the previous over, Siraj hit GS Dinusha for his first maximum by clearing his front foot and smacking it down the ground.

Although Siraj’s three sixes against Nuwantha finished off the match on paper, there are really no rules in warm-up games. So, both teams decided to continue, and Siraj managed another boundary — inside edge which rolled to deep fine leg — and a single to stay not-out at 32 (15).
Siraj has been working hard on his batting ever since he came into the Indian team. He is India’s number 11 in most games but is now good enough to at least support a more specialist non-striker in crunch situations. This cameo was his way of showing that he can also contribute runs against spinners late in the order, which could prove crucial in Sri Lanka.
The first Test begins on August 15 in Galle.
