Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday accused the Congress of spreading misinformation and falsehoods during the ongoing war in West Asia, and urged the party to listen to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal
Nehru’s earlier warning about the impact of wars on the country.
After inaugurating several development initiatives in Guwahati, PM Modi said, “While the BJP-led NDA government is working towards supporting farmers and achieving self-reliance for the country, the Congress party has once again demonstrated a lack of commitment to the nation. Even in times of crisis caused by war, Congress remains focused on spreading misinformation and falsehoods.”
“I urge members of Congress to listen to Pandit Nehru’s August 15th speech from the Red Fort – you may find it enlightening. Pandit Nehru once remarked that the wars in South and North Korea were contributing to inflation in our country. Now think how far North and South Korea are located, yet he linked that conflict to inflation in India. Today, the Congress is working to mislead the country,” he added.
PM Modi said the BJP-NDA government had ensured that India’s agricultural sector was unaffected by global crises like the Covid-19 pandemic or subsequent conflicts across the world. He also accused the Congress party of spreading rumours that the financial assistance provided to farmers under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana would have to be returned after the elections.
‘Shop Of False Promises’
The Prime Minister said the welfare of farmers was a top priority for the government, while the Congress withheld funds meant for the agricultural sector and relied on foreign disbursements over the years. He said during conflicts across the world, the disruptions in global supply chains would lead to steep hikes in fertiliser prices in India.
“This was because, for decades, the Congress party kept the nation dependent on foreign countries—a dependency that inevitably drove up the cost of cultivation. However, our government formulated the policy of “Per Drop, More Crop.” We have brought micro-irrigation technologies, such as drip and sprinkler systems, directly to the farmers,” he said.
He also accused the Congress in poll-bound Assam of creating divisions among different communities for its own benefit and termed the party as “a shop of false promises”.
“The Congress is a shop of false promises–and along with every false promise, it offers four ‘super-lies’ as a bonus gift. This is because the Congress has absolutely no intention of ever fulfilling those promises,” he said, accusing the Congress of prioritising political gains, while the BJP was working for peace.
