Rakul Preet Singh spoke about the success of her recent film De De Pyaar De 2 at an event. Expressing her excitement over the film’s positive reception, she also shared her thoughts on playing a romantic
lead opposite a senior actor, Ajay Devgn.
On the second day of Agenda Aaj Tak 2025, Rakul mentioned that the film had received a very warm response from audiences. She said that her role in the film was particularly satisfying, highlighting that few projects offer actresses such well-rounded characters. She expressed hope that she would continue to get similar opportunities in the future.
Rakul Preet Singh on Romancing an Older Hero on Screen
When asked about the on-screen age gap with Ajay Devgn, Rakul explained that she had observed many real-life couples with significant age differences. She said that portraying such relationships on film is challenging, as the story does not imply that these relationships are easily accepted, but rather shows both the impact and potential drawbacks.
On working with Ajay, she said, “Acting is a weird process. Between action and cut, you are a different character. I don’t even know how that switch happens. We laugh before crying in a scene. There’s a lot of hustle and bustle on the set. But as soon as the camera turns on, a switch flips inside you. Ajay sir will always be ‘sir’ to me; I grew up watching him. He is a superstar. The respect for him will always remain.”
Cinema vs Society: Rakul on Age Gaps and Entertainment
Addressing the criticism often faced by films that feature a large age gap between the lead pair, Rakul emphasised that movies are meant for entertainment and should not always be taken as a reflection of society. She explained that cinema can have different purposes: some films aim to create impact, while others exist purely for enjoyment.
Why De De Pyaar De 2 Took Six Years to Materialise
Rakul also discussed the six-year gap between the original and the sequel. She revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic delayed filming and travel plans, and that the team wanted to finalise a strong script before starting production. She expressed her excitement about the final project and her role, saying that audiences have found the film both progressive and humorous.
She said, “The idea was that we wouldn’t make the film until a good script was finalised. We didn’t want to move forward with this project just for the sake of making it. Finally, we found one and then the film started production. I was very excited about Part 2. I knew my role would be solid. People say this film was very progressive and funny.”
Rakul Preet Singh on Career Goals and Avoiding Unnecessary Pressure
When asked about her position among Bollywood’s A-list stars, Rakul stated that she avoids competing in such terms, as the pressure is endless. She explained that her focus is on selecting good scripts and being appreciated by audiences. Reflecting on her journey from a newcomer with no connections to a seasoned actress with over a decade of experience, she said that every film leads her to immediately prepare for the next project. She believes that thinking one has “arrived” can be dangerous, as it might mark the beginning of a career downfall.
