Mukesh Ambani, chairman and managing director of oil-to-telecoms behemoth Reliance Industries, has articulated a transformative vision for Reliance Industries, declaring Artificial Intelligence as the
“most consequential technological development in human history”. The vision is not merely aspirational but is codified in a “Sankalp” (resolve) to transform Reliance into an AI-native, deep-tech company with advanced manufacturing capabilities. The overarching goal is ambitious: to achieve a 10x improvement in the quality and outcome of work for over 6,00,000 colleagues, and a corresponding 10x impact on India’s economy and society.
The manifesto clarifies that the transformation is “not a technology project” but a fundamental shift in how work happens. The operational philosophy is built on a simple four-word rhythm: Outcomes, Workflows, Platforms, Governance.
To execute this, Reliance is moving away from traditional hierarchies. The organisation will operate through Pods—small, cross-functional teams where each pod has one clear Objective & Key Result (OKR) and one accountable champion.
This internal engine is powered by five specific “flywheels” that run every week:
• Real-Time Data: Eliminating digital breaks to ensure end-to-end capture.
• Real-Time Operations: Detecting issues early to close loops fast.
• Real-Time Governance: Embedding compliance and audit trails by design.
• Learning & Knowledge: Standardising and reusing best practices at scale.
• AI & Agentic Automation: Increasing autonomy safely with human-in-the-loop oversight.
To manage risk while innovating, teams will utilise the H2H1H0 model: experimenting (H2), scaling measurable impact (H1), and stabilising operations (H0).
The second half of the manifesto focuses on leveraging this internal strength for external impact. The motto is clear: “Affordable AI for every Indian”.
Ambani outlines several strategic domains for this application:
• Jio & Retail: Leveraging the 500 million+ Jio subscriber base and India’s largest retail business to empower customers and integrate suppliers.
• Energy & Materials: Using AI to transform the O2C business for new material discovery and to revolutionise India’s green energy landscape through New Energy initiatives.
• Life Sciences & Healthcare: Deploying AI to cure major diseases and prolong healthy life.
• Media & Finance: Creating a distinctively Indian paradigm in media and providing critical financial services to millions.
A Shared Commitment
Underpinning these initiatives is the organisational philosophy of ‘WE CARE’, aimed at developing caring AI systems. The manifesto serves as a draft guide, inviting every Reliance colleague to contribute ideas between January 10 and 26 to collectively shape this action plan. This collaborative effort marks the beginning of a journey to build a “New Reliance and a New India”.
