Across India, electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more common, but the infrastructure to support them is still catching up. While some cities have multiple charging stations, other routes have very few,
leaving drivers with long waits. A recent video has highlighted this issue, showing just how frustrating EV charging can be during a long highway trip.
The clip comes from a person travelling from Delhi to Jaipur. What should have been a smooth 3.5-hour journey turned into a much longer trip because of delays at a charging station.
The video shows cars lined up, waiting for just a single charger to be available, which has sparked a discussion about the need for more EV charging points across highways.
EV Charging Bottleneck
The 17-second video opens at a busy EV charging station on the expressway. Only one charger is in use while several electric cars wait in line for their turn. The video was shared on Reddit with a caption, “EV life isn’t always smooth, Expressway..Only one EV charger working..Huge waiting line!”

Here’s How Social Media Reacted
The post quickly drew attention, with viewers commenting on the growing pains of India’s EV adoption.
A user suggested that roadside dhabas and restaurants could offer EV charging along with food and rest facilities, noting that travellers often take 1 to 2 hours to eat or rest, which could match the charging time.
“This is a great business opportunity for roadside Dhabas, where they can offer EV charging and other pitstop facilities. Usually, eating/resting involves 1-2 hours, so it can match the gap. Even petrol/diesel pumps weren’t there in abundance 20-30 years back.”
Another jokingly said, “Just keep a generator in the boot,” while a few others emphasised that the main problem is not the number of chargers but the long time each car takes to charge.
“I’ve gone on long drives across cities in cars, and even lunch stops were half hr max, including ordering times. 1 hr is ok if you have a large family and order exquisite dishes, else ppl want to eat and then move on with their driving, and waiting for 2 hrs to charge would just make your other plans tough,” a person wrote.
