Bobby Deol has been enjoying a strong professional resurgence in recent years after making a comeback with his impactful performance in several projects, including Animal and The Ba***ds of Bollywood.
This marks a sharp turnaround from a long period of professional lull, during which he also faced personal struggles, including alcohol addiction and other challenges. In a recent conversation with Rajat Sharma on Aap Ki Adalat, Bobby opened up about that difficult phase in his life. He admitted that during his career slump, he turned to alcohol as a way of coping with feelings of failure and self-doubt. He credited his wife Tania Deol for helping him overcome alcohol addiction. He also rubbished rumours that she left him during his low phase, saying that she always stood by him.
Bobby Deol On Battling Alcohol Addiction
Bobby shared that his wife, Tania, played a crucial role during those tough years, even managing household responsibilities and finances while he had no work. He revealed that a turning point came when his children began questioning him, which motivated him to take control of his life and work on himself.
“When you give up, you get into self-pity. It’s human nature. You feel your world is over, no one likes you, and then you get addicted to a few things which help sedate you. Even my father loved to drink, and I too started drinking and got addicted. But my wife helped me out of it,” said Bobby Deol.
“If Tanya wasn’t in my life, I wouldn’t be sitting here today. She took care of our house financially. She was working and bearing all the expenses at home. It was when my children started asking why I was always sitting at home and their mother would go to the office that something snapped within me and I decided to work on myself,” he said.
Bobby Deol Rubbishes Rumours Of Wife Tania Walking Out Of Marriage During His Bad Phase
The actor also addressed rumours suggesting that his wife had left him during his difficult phase, dismissing them as completely false. He clarified that although she would often warn him about his drinking, she never walked out of the marriage and stood by him throughout.
“Feels like I am hearing a joke. Women are so strong mentally and emotionally; my wife never left me. She would threaten to leave me if I didn’t stop drinking, but she never did, and I continued to drink. But that was never the case,” he clarified.
