Japan has been at the forefront of remarkable inventions, ahead of the rest of the world. From smart homes to high-tech gadgets, innovation is part of daily life, turning simple routines into refined experiences.
In a video circulating on social media, a man demonstrated how the Japanese have been redefining rest with nothing more than a customised pillow.
The man, who documents the country’s unique experiences, shared that no trip to Osaka is complete without a custom pillow from Nishikawa. The brand has been redefining sleep since 1566. He called them “sleep masters” and revealed that to get your own customised pillow, you would need to go through a six-step process that begins with a consultation, during which trained professionals ask about your sleep habits.
Man Explains Six Steps To Get A Customised Pillow
“Step one, the sleep master provides consultations about your current sleep situation,” he mentioned. In the next step, the person is asked to choose their preferred pillow filling material from a wide range of options in the catalogue. The third step, as the man shared, is “exciting”. “Get your measurements for your ideal pillow height to create a one-of-a-kind pillow just for you,” he explained.
Next comes the trial part. Customers are asked to lie down on premium beds and test the pillow by sleeping on different sides, or their preferred ones. Suggesting how to test your customised pillow, he said, “The key I learned is to keep your eye level at this forward angle.” The penultimate step in the process is to adjust the pillow’s height according to one’s preference. It can be adjusted at 14 different points.
The sixth and final step is when the sleep master invites the customer to give their pillow a final check to ensure it meets their preferences. “Through meticulous refinement, Nishikawa achieves a singular creation uniquely calibrated to your form. You can even return them for professional maintenance because a master’s work deserves to be preserved,” he concluded.

Internet Calls The Experience “Life-Changing”
In no time, the clip went viral, garnering over 4.7 million views on Instagram. Reacting to it, one user joked, “Japan got a goddamn master for everything.”
“I might literally book a flight to Osaka just for this,” added another.
“My poor little fused arthritic neck needs this so bad,” a different individual mentioned.
Someone else quipped, “Ok, that’s all I need, next holiday is Japan.”
Another person said, “This would be life-changing! Glad I saw this.”
