The European Union (EU)’s Foreign Policy Chief, Kaja Kallas, has accused Russia of assisting Iran with intelligence to “target” and “kill” Americans.
“We see that Russia is helping Iran with intelligence
to target Americans, to kill Americans,” Politico quoted Kallas as saying as G7 foreign ministers met south of Paris.
She alleged Moscow is assisting Iran with military assets to carry out attacks on neighbouring nations, along with facilities linked to the United States.
“Russia is also supporting Iran now with the drones so that they can attack neighboring countries and also US military bases,” Kallas said.
The agenda of the two-day G7 ministerial meeting remains focused on the conflict in West Asia, which has pushed global markets into a state of heightened volatility and uncertainty, with rising concerns over fuel prices and escalating tensions.
“These wars are very much interlinked… If America wants the war in the Middle East to stop, Iran to stop attacking them, they should also put the pressure on Russia so that they are not able to help them in this,” she said, referring to Moscow’s war with Ukraine.
Kallas’ comments come amid growing discontent among European nations over U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to ramp up strikes against Iran, particularly in view of the surging energy prices.
Rubio To Join G7 Summit Today
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to join the summit on Friday, March 27. Before departing for France to attend the meeting, Rubio called on G7 nations to push for the reopening of Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint, which was blocked by Iran in the wake of the war.
“It’s not help for us… very little of US energy comes through the Strait of Hormuz. It’s the world that has a great interest in that. So they should step up and deal with it,” he said.
Iran, on the other hand, has maintained the waterway remains accessible to “friendly nations”, including India.
