As Madhya Pradesh Lokayukta officials raided properties of retired PWD Chief Engineer GP Mehra on Thursday, a staggering trail of wealth, from piles of cash and gold to an unexpected 17 tonnes of honey,
was uncovered.
What began as a probe into disproportionate assets soon turned into one of the state’s biggest corruption stories. Teams led by four DSP-rank officers raided multiple locations across Bhopal and Narmadapuram, revealing opulence on a shocking scale.
At Mehra’s Manipuram Colony home, officials seized Rs 8.79 lakh in cash, jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh, and fixed deposits of Rs 56 lakh. His luxury flat in Opal Regency yielded Rs 26 lakh in cash, 2.6 kg of gold worth over Rs 3 crore, and 5.5 kg of silver, NDTV reported.

But the real spectacle awaited at his farmhouse in village Saini, Sohagpur, where investigators found 17 tonnes of honey, six tractors, 32 cottages under construction, seven completed cottages, and a private pond for fish farming. The property also housed a cowshed, temple, and multiple luxury cars — including a Ford Endeavour, Skoda Slavia, Kia Sonet, and Maruti Ciaz — all registered under Mehra’s family.
At KT Industries in Govindpura Industrial Area, allegedly linked to Mehra, the Lokayukta recovered documents suggesting family involvement, along with machinery, raw materials, and Rs 1.25 lakh in cash.
By the end of the day, the haul stood at Rs 36.04 lakh in cash, 2.649 kg of gold, 5.523 kg of silver, luxury vehicles, and numerous investments and properties. Forensic teams are now examining seized digital and financial records, while officials estimate Mehra’s total assets could run into several crores of rupees.
