Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has said that he feels Jasprit Bumrah is not 100% fit and his body language isn’t the same as it was in the recent T20 World Cup, adding that it is unusual to see Bumrah continually
miss his lengths.
Bumrah has been experimenting with his variations, trying different approaches, but the results have not followed. There have been flashes of control and discipline, yet the sharp, decisive edge that defines his bowling has been missing.
For someone renowned for delivering under pressure, it is a rare lean patch Bumrah will be eager to overcome.
“I feel that Jasprit Bumrah isn’t 100% fit, to be honest. This is my perception and my belief. When we are watching Bumrah bowl, the body language we are seeing isn’t the same as what we saw in the World Cup or even before that,” Jaffer said while speaking on ESPNCricinfo.
“So I sometimes feel that Bumrah isn’t at his best. Because he doesn’t usually miss his lengths like this and he doesn’t usually get hit like this. If he were 100% fit, I can’t imagine him bowling like this and continuing like this,” Jaffer added.
The former Indian cricketer also reflected on Bumrah’s current struggles, noting that the trademark sharpness and late movement in his bowling seem to have diminished.
Jaffer added that while form can fluctuate, Bumrah appears to be going through a phase where things are not quite clicking.
“It feels like that zing in Bumrah’s bowling is missing. It seems like the ball, which used to come in quickly and hit the bat hard, is slightly lacking now. Form does not always stay the same and it isn’t like Bumrah will bowl brilliantly every time or have a great spell in every match,” Jaffer said.
