Following a historic title triumph, the BCCI has announced a record prize money for the India squad that won the 2026 T20 World Cup as the team became the first in the tournament’s history to retain the crown.
Additionally, India now have three T20 World Cup trophies – the most by any.
The board on Tuesday announced that the winning squad will receive Rs 131 crore as cash reward for the performance that saw them defeat New Zealand by a massive margin of 96 runs in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The amount will be divided between the India cricketers and the support staff.
“The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future,” BCCI said in a statement on Tuesday.
How Much Each Player Will Earn?
The players will receive the lion’s share of the reward money while amount for the support staff will be decided as per hierarchy, reports news agency PTI.
The 15 players will receive Rs 6 crore each and the remaining Rs 41 crore will be distributed among entire support staff.
How Was The Prize Money Distributed For 2024 T20 World Cup?
India broke their ICC trophy drought of 11 years when they defeated South Africa in a pulsating final held in Bridgetown (Barbados) to lift the 2024 T20 World Cup. For the achievement, the board announced cash prize of Rs 125 crore for the champion squad.
Each of the 15-member squad grew richer by Rs 5 crore. The then head coach Rahul Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour, fielding coach T Dilip and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey each received Rs 2.5 crore.
Last time, India picked four travelling reserves in Rinku Singh, Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed for the tournament. Each of them pocketed Rs 1 crore.
The selectors including chairman Ajit Agarkar received Rs 1 crore each. The backroom staff comprising physiotherapists, throwdown specialists, masseurs, strength and condition coaches were reportedly given Rs 2 crore each.
Besides, the video analyst, media officers, logistics manager employed by the BCCI were also rewarded.
