India’s victory in the ICC T20 men’s World Cup final set a new viewership record on the streaming platform JioHotstar, with concurrent viewership reaching 74.5 crore when the last New Zealand wicket fell.
On Sunday, India clinched the trophy for a historic third time, marking them as the only nation to win the title on home soil.
As the final New Zealand wicket fell in the 19th over, confirming India’s 96-run win, the concurrent viewership was at 74.5 crore and surged to 82.1 crore by the end of the post-match presentation.
The viewership for the final gradually built up to its peak.
Before the start of the match, the concurrent viewership was at 2.1 crore during Ricky Martin’s performance and increased to 4.2 crore at the time of the toss.
This exceeded the previous record of 6.5 crore peak concurrent viewers set during the India vs England semi-final on the JioHotstar platform.
Peak concurrency refers to the highest number of viewers during a live stream at any given time.
Even before India’s innings commenced, viewership had already hit 6.5 crore.
This number surpassed the previous highest for an ICC tournament final, which was 5.9 crore peak concurrent viewership, recorded during the India vs Australia match in the 50-overs format on November 20, 2023.
India had lost that match, which also took place in Ahmedabad.
On Sunday, as the match unfolded, viewership continued to climb, reaching 43.9 crore by the end of India’s innings and 44.3 crore during the innings break.
When New Zealand began their chase of 255 runs, the viewership was at 49.9 crore and rose to 50.3 crore by the end of the first over.
The previous T20 World Cup final in 2024, which ended India’s 13-year wait for an ICC trophy, had seen a peak concurrent viewership of 5.3 crore on Disney+Hotstar.
