Indian Railways continues to add new facilities to improve passenger comfort, especially on long-distance routes. With the launch of its first sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train, attention has now
shifted to the small details inside the coaches. A recent video shared online shows one such feature that has caught people’s eye.
The clip focuses on a basic but useful service that many travellers usually pay for during overnight journeys.
Inside India’s First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off India’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train on January 17. The train connects Howrah, near Kolkata, with Kamakhya Junction in Guwahati and is designed mainly for overnight travel. The launch took place from Malda Town in West Bengal, while the return Guwahati-Howrah service was flagged off virtually.
This new service aims to offer faster travel between West Bengal and Assam while also improving comfort for passengers spending long hours on board. Since its launch, several clips showing different features of the train have started circulating online.
Video Shows Free Hot And Cold Water Facility
One such video highlights a water dispenser installed inside the sleeper coach. The clip shows a stainless-steel unit fitted neatly inside the train, with taps for both hot and cold water. The water is RO-purified and meant for passenger use during the journey.
A man behind the camera explains the feature while recording the unit. He says, “You’ll get it free of cost. This is the first train in our country where you can drink hot and cold water free of charge. You just have to bring your own bottle from home.” The video shows water flowing from the tap into a bottle, giving viewers a clear look at how the system works.
Online Reactions Range From Praise To Concern
As the video gained attention, users shared mixed reactions in the comments section. A person joked, “Our spitting squad is on the way.” Another said, “Should be kept safe, or it’ll be trending on resale in days.”
Some users questioned whether the facility would last long. “Woh pantry staff ke liye hai na ki passenger ke use ke liye aur har 2 coaches mein ek hai, railway bhi janta hai agar passenger ko diya toh tehes nehes kar ke rakh denge,” a person commented. Another added, “Bas kisi pattar baaz aur lal tukhne walo ki najar na lge.”
A few comments were more direct. “Jaldi hi vo nal aur machine chori hone wali hai,” a user said. Another wrote, “lol Don’t worry someone will break that soo soon.”
What Else The Sleeper Train Offers
Apart from the water facility, the Vande Bharat sleeper train comes with several modern features. It is built to reach speeds of up to 180 kmph, though it is expected to run at around 120-130 kmph. The berths are designed for comfort and supported by improved suspension systems.
The train also focuses on hygiene, using disinfectant technology that can kill most germs. For safety, it has the Kavach protection system and onboard surveillance. Automatic sliding doors stay shut during travel and open only at stations.
Passengers will also be served local cuisine as part of the ticket. Those travelling from Kamakhya to Howrah will get Assamese dishes, while the return journey offers Bengali food. Ticket prices range from around Rs 2,300 to Rs 3,600, depending on the class.
