Days after nationwide student protests over the NEET exam paper leak intensified, Prime Minister Narendra Modi finally issued a statement late on Thursday, July 23. The PM said that the Union Cabinet will
discuss tougher measures against paper leaks, calling the issue “not an ordinary issue” and promising further action in the coming days. However, Dia Mirza is not happy with his speech, saying that it lacked compassion.
Mirza, in a post on Instagram, called out the Prime Minister for not mentioning the parents of those students who had lost their lives. She also questioned him for not speaking about the students who spent weeks on a hunger strike or those who are protesting on the streets at the moment. Dia Mirza criticised PM Narendra Modi for lacking empathy.
Dia wrote, “Not one word of empathy for the parents who have lost their children, for the children who have died, for the incredible resilience of students demanding their rights, for Sonamji and the students who were on a hunger strike for weeks. How hard can it be Sir? It took 47 days for you to say something. And now that you have, you have said nothing. Nothing that can heal the millions of hearts that are broken.”

In a late-night post on X, PM Modi shared a video message titled, ‘More Strict Actions Against Paper Leaks To Come In Tomorrow’s Cabinet!’ The message came amid the ongoing protests over the NEET paper leak at Jantar Mantar. He also said the government plans to introduce a bill in Parliament next week to strengthen action against paper leaks.
“The paper leak is not an ordinary issue. It is a painful issue for lakhs of students and their parents,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister added that several accused had been arrested in the last two-and-a-half months and were currently behind bars. He stressed that the government’s top priority was to ensure students did not lose an academic year because of the controversy and that the re-examination was held as soon as possible.
