Spending three days with officers and Agniveers in training, Bhumi Pednekar marked the moment in an ensemble that honoured the cultural richness of the Northeast while paying tribute to the women who paved the way before her.

Bhumi’s outfit balanced modern tailoring with traditional textile heritage. She wore a structured black high-neck top layered under a grey blazer featuring notch lapels, double collars, and full sleeves – a silhouette that felt sharp yet understated.

The focal point of the ensemble, however, was her red silk Assamese wrap skirt. Handwoven and adorned with intricate golden embroidery, the skirt brought in a sense of ceremonial elegance, grounding the contemporary separates in regional craftsmanship. The choice subtly spotlighted Northeast India’s textile legacy – an often underrepresented narrative in mainstream fashion moments.

What elevated the look from elegant to deeply moving was Bhumi’s decision to pin her mother’s NCC medals onto her blazer. Sharing the moment on Instagram, she wrote, “There couldn’t have been a better moment than this to wear my mother’s medals she won during her time in the @nccindiaofficial. @sumitrapednekar, you are my hero.”

Speaking about the significance, Bhumi explained, “My mother often spoke to me about her experiences during her NCC days… and I felt there couldn’t be a more apt place for me to wear all of her medals.”

Completing the look, Bhumi accessorised with a traditional black embroidered necklace featuring accents of white, yellow, and red, layered with red bead chains. Black pointy-toe heeled boots added a contemporary edge, while her makeup remained refined with a classic winged eyeliner, softly sculpted cheeks, and nude lips.
