Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy, has built a massive financial empire over three decades in cinema, and his transition into politics has brought renewed focus to his wealth. As per his 2026 election
affidavit, Vijay has declared total assets of around Rs 603 crore, placing him among the richest first-time candidates in Indian politics.
A large portion of Vijay’s wealth comes from movable assets, which are valued at approximately Rs 404 crore. These include bank deposits exceeding Rs 213 crore, along with investments, gold, and other financial holdings. His affidavit also lists luxury vehicles such as BMW models, Toyota Lexus, Toyota Vellfire, and a BMW i7, reflecting a high-end lifestyle supported by decades of film earnings.
Thalapathy Vijay‘s second major component of his net worth is immovable assets, estimated at nearly Rs 198-220 crore. These include residential and commercial properties in Chennai, as well as agricultural land in Kodaikanal. He is also known to own a sea-facing bungalow in Neelankarai, one of the most expensive real estate pockets in the city, along with other premium properties.
Vijay’s wealth is largely driven by his film career. He is among India’s highest-paid actors, reportedly charging between Rs 100 crore and Rs 120 crore per film, with some reports suggesting even higher pay for his recent projects. Apart from acting, his income also comes from brand endorsements, production ventures, and returns on investments built over time.
Now, Vijay has entered politics with his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), contesting the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East. His party has fielded candidates across all 234 constituencies, marking a full-scale political debut.
Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy, began his journey in Tamil cinema as a child artist before making his debut as a lead with Naalaiya Theerpu (1992), which failed at the box office. He slowly built his career with films like Poove Unakkaga (1996) and Kadhalukku Mariyadhai (1997), which helped establish him as a bankable star. His major breakthrough came with Ghilli, which became the highest-grossing Tamil film of its time and marked a shift towards his mass-action image.
Over the years, Vijay cemented his position with blockbuster hits such as Pokkiri, Thuppakki, Kaththi, Mersal, Sarkar, Master, Beast and Leo, many of which were major commercial successes and reinforced his status as one of Tamil cinema’s biggest box office draws. His films often combined mass appeal with social or political themes, which later fed into his real-life political positioning.
His upcoming film Jana Nayagan is officially confirmed as his final film before stepping into full-time politics. The project, directed by H. Vinoth, is designed as a political action thriller and is widely seen as the closing chapter of his film career.
