Argentina booked their place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final with a dramatic 2-1 comeback against England in the second semi-final, which was held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on July 15. England looked
set for a win in the game after Anthony Gordon scored in the 55th minute to give his side a 1-0 lead. But Argentina made a comeback as Enzo Fernandez equalled the score in the 85th minute before Lautaro Martinez scored the second goal to win the game.
After the final whistle, Argentina fans broke out in celebration. Supporters cheered loudly, waved their national flag and sang in joy as their team secured a place in yet another World Cup final. Glimpses of the celebrations have surfaced online from across the world, but mainly the United States, where the ongoing tournament is taking place.
Streets of New York turned blue and white as several Argentina supporters celebrated the win by singing and dancing. In a video posted on X, fans of Lionel Messi were seen taking to Times Square and enthusiastically celebrating the moment.

Meanwhile, Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina, turned into celebratory mode as fans burst crackers, loudly cheered, sang and danced after Argentina secured their place in the finals.

“Argentina has won the semifinal and is heading to the World Cup Final! Congratulations, Messi! Congratulations, Argentina!” a fan wrote in a post, which showed Messi celebrating after they won the match against England.

“The goat delivered tonight again,” another fan said.
“Argentina silenced all critics tonight. They completely dominated the second half of the match. They play better under pressure. A well deserved Win,” someone else said.
An individual shared, “Even despite criticism as if last world cup, he managed to clear his mind off it with his late strike, history will remember him for he was heavily criticized for the lost goal…But he do better tonight coming in and saving his team by sending them to the final is a great feat.”
The celebration was not limited to the US or Argentina, but a man shared a video on X, where he was seen waving Argentina’s flag at Base Esperanza, a permanent Argentine research station located at Hope Bay on the Antarctic Peninsula.

The victory sent Messi’s Argentina into their second straight FIFA World Cup final. They will now face Spain on Sunday, July 19 (July 20 in India) after the European side defeated France 2-0 in the other semi-final.
