Why Vijay Deverakonda And Rashmika Mandanna Faced Backlash
The controversy began after Vijay and Rashmika appeared together on the second episode of Karan Johar-hosted Koffee With Karan 9 and spoke about their relationship.
During the conversation, Rashmika recalled asking Vijay to marry her while they were at an airport.
“Let’s get married,” she said she had told him.
According to Rashmika, Vijay replied, “Okay, you ask me 100 times.”
She further revealed that she continued asking him for nearly a year.
Vijay, meanwhile, explained that he wanted the two of them to take their time before making such an important decision.
The exchange quickly became a talking point online. While some viewers found the conversation candid, others interpreted Vijay’s comments differently.
Several social media users argued that Rashmika’s feelings appeared more one-sided and labelled Vijay a “red flag”. Some also accused him of disrespecting his wife based on how the conversation played out on the show.
Vijay And Rashmika Respond To The Criticism
As the backlash continued, both Vijay and Rashmika addressed the discussion through separate social media posts on October 26.
Rashmika reaffirmed her confidence in their relationship and said she would choose Vijay “a thousand times over”.
Vijay also responded to the criticism surrounding their marriage.
He described their relationship as “gloriously happy” and pushed back at people passing judgement on it, asking those unhappy with their relationship to keep their opinions to themselves.
The couple’s team has now moved beyond public responses and reportedly sought legal intervention over what it describes as fabricated content, impersonation and targeted harassment circulating online.
