Bollywood actor Junaid Khan has opened up about the poor box office performance of his film Ek Din. The actor revealed that his father, superstar Aamir Khan, is still emotionally affected by the film’s
failure. Ek Din marked another disappointing theatrical outing for Junaid after Loveyapa. The romantic drama struggled at the box office despite being backed by Aamir Khan Productions.
Junaid Khan Reacts To Ek Din’s Failure
Speaking to journalist Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Junaid Khan admitted that the team had expected a better response from audiences. The actor said he personally enjoyed working on the film but accepted that it failed to connect with a wider audience.
“Yaa film’s not done well. We were hopeful but I guess it didn’t do well. Hota hai kabhi kabhi. It’s a film that I really liked and enjoyed. A lot of people did really like it but I guess most people didn’t really like it. It happens sometimes.”
Aamir Khan Took The Film’s Failure Personally
During the same conversation, Junaid was asked how Aamir Khan reacted to Ek Din underperforming in theatres. The film was not only important for Junaid’s career but was also produced under Aamir Khan Productions. According to Junaid, Aamir continues to feel disappointed about the outcome. “He is still moping. Even after all these years, after seeing all of it, it still really bothers him. But he keeps himself busy and goes back out there and does it all over again. He takes a film’s failure very personally, especially when he likes the film,” Junaid shared.
About Ek Din
Ek Din was directed by Sunil Pandey and produced by Mansoor Khan, Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit under Aamir Khan Productions. The romantic drama also marked Sai Pallavi’s Bollywood debut and was Junaid Khan’s second theatrical release. The film is a remake of the 2016 Thai movie One Day. Released on May 1, the film reportedly earned ₹1 crore on its opening day. However, collections dropped steadily in the following days.
According to reports, Ek Din’s India net collection stood at 4.25 crore. The film received mixed-to-negative reviews from both critics and audiences, which impacted its theatrical run.
