The Supreme Court of India, on Thursday, refused to entertain the plea of producers of Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming movie, Jana Nayagan. The apex court asked KVN Productions to approach the division bench
of the High Court instead. It also directed the high court to hear the plea on January 20, 2026.
This comes as Jana Nayagan continues to struggle to get a clearance from the CBFC. Earlier this week, after the Madras High Court put a stay on a single judge’s order to grant clearance to the film, the makers of the movie moved the Supreme Court against the stay.
Later, Venkat K. Narayana of KVN Productions also shared a video message on Instagram, opening up about the emotional toll the delay has taken on the team. “This has been an extremely emotional and difficult moment for everyone who has poured their heart, soul, and years of hard work into this film,” he said. Emphasising the significance of the project, he added, “Above all, we firmly believe that Thalapathy Vijay sir deserves the farewell he has earned through decades of love from his fans.”
For the unversed, Vijay’s Jana Nayagan was supposed to hit theatres on January 9 but was then postponed due to certification issues. “It is with a heavy heart that we share this update with our valued stakeholders and audiences. The release of Jana Nayagan, eagerly awaited on January 9, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control,” the makers announced earlier this month.
“We deeply understand the anticipation, excitement, and emotions surrounding this film, and this decision has not been an easy one for any of us. The new release date will be announced at the earliest. Until then, we humbly request your patience and continued love. Your unwavering support is our greatest strength and means everything to the entire Jana Nayagan team,” the statement added.
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain. The film has been heavily marketed as Vijay’s final cinematic outing before his full-time foray into politics, adding to the anticipation surrounding its release.
