A special summer mountain train service has been inaugurated, connecting Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district to the scenic hill station of Ooty in Nilgiri district. This picturesque train journey has long
been a favourite among tourists, both domestic and international, who enjoy the winding tracks, lush greenery, and breathtaking views of the Nilgiri hills.
The historic mountain train, renowned for its unique narrow-gauge route and engineering marvels, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2005, further enhancing its appeal for tourists and rail enthusiasts alike.

Timings And Route Details
The regular train departs Mettupalayam at 7:10 am and reaches Ooty by 12 pm, providing a comfortable morning journey for visitors.
In addition to this, the Salem Railway Division has introduced a special summer service to accommodate the growing number of tourists during the peak season.
Special Summer Train Schedule
The special train from Mettupalayam to Ooty will run on Fridays and Sundays from March 27 to July 5. The inaugural special summer train departed Mettupalayam at 9:10 am, giving tourists a chance to enjoy the scenic journey and capture the stunning landscapes along the route.
From Ooty to Mettupalayam, the special service will operate on Saturdays and Mondays between March 28 and July 6, ensuring smooth connectivity for travellers wishing to return from the hill station. Tourists on board have already expressed delight at the comfortable travel experience and the opportunity to enjoy panoramic views of the Nilgiri hills.
