The 2026 Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) election was held on January 15, 2026, to choose representatives for all 165 seats in the city’s civic body. Voter turnout in Pune was moderate, hovering around 52–55 per cent, reflecting slightly lower participation compared to earlier civic polls.
PMC election witnessed a keen contest as the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and NCP (SP), led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and his uncle Sharad Pawar along with Supriya Sule, chose to contest the civic polls together, significantly altering the political dynamics in the city. The decision to present a united front was aimed at consolidating the traditional NCP vote base in Pune, which has long been considered a stronghold of the Pawar family, and at countering the organisational strength of the BJP at the grassroots level. This temporary rapprochement between the rival factions also turned the civic election into a test of the Pawars’ combined influence.
Meanwhile, counting was also underway for 28 other civic bodies across Maharashtra including Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in Mumbai and Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
