India on Thursday strongly condemned attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia after an Indian national was killed and three others were injured in attacks targeting King Fahd International
Airport in Dammam and Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oil field.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said one Indian national was killed and two others were injured in the attack on Dammam airport on October 21, while another Indian national was injured in the attack on the Shaybah oil field in the kingdom’s Eastern Province.
“We strongly condemn the continued attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia,” the MEA said, adding that the attacks had resulted in civilian deaths and injuries.
The ministry conveyed its condolences to the family of the deceased and wished those injured a speedy recovery. It said the Indian Embassy in Riyadh was in contact with Saudi authorities and would provide all possible assistance to the affected Indian nationals.
The statement comes amid a spate of attacks on Saudi Arabia’s airports and energy infrastructure, with Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels having claimed responsibility for some strikes on the kingdom. Saudi authorities have not publicly confirmed who was responsible for the October 21 attack on Dammam airport. At the Shaybah oil field, Saudi authorities said air defences intercepted an attempted drone attack, with falling shrapnel causing casualties.
Earlier this month, an Indian national was killed in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, while several others were injured, prompting India to condemn strikes on civilian infrastructure and issue safety advisories to its nationals in Saudi Arabia.
The MEA reiterated that attacks on civilian and critical infrastructure were “completely unacceptable” and must cease immediately. India also expressed solidarity with the people and government of Saudi Arabia in safeguarding the kingdom’s sovereignty, while expressing hope that peace and normalcy would return to the region at the earliest.
