Amy Poehler just made podcasting history. On Sunday night, the Emmy-winning comedian and former Parks and Recreation star took home the inaugural Golden Globe for Best Podcast for her show Good Hang With
Amy Poehler, besting a star-studded lineup that included her ex-husband Will Arnett’s SmartLess, Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy, Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert, The Mel Robbins Podcast, and NPR’s Up First.
“This is exactly how I pictured it: Snoop giving me the award!” Poehler said, beaming as she accepted the trophy from the rapper and entertainer. “I don’t know about awards shows, but, when they get it right, it makes sense. Thank you so much for this.”
She also poked fun at her fellow nominees, joking, “I’m fans of all of you — except for NPR. Just a bunch of celebs phoning it in. So, try harder!”
Launched in March 2025, Good Hang brings Poehler together with comedians, celebrities, and friends for candid conversations about careers, passions, and the things that make them laugh. The podcast has featured high-profile guests including Aubrey Plaza, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ariana Grande, Paul Rudd, Jack Black, Selena Gomez, and Michelle Obama. Poehler recently interviewed Plaza about the passing of her late husband, Jeff Baena, in January 2025, highlighting the show’s mix of humor and heartfelt discussion.
Arnett, who cohosts SmartLess alongside Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes, was among Poehler’s high-profile competitors in the first-ever podcast category. Poehler and Arnett were married from 2003 to 2016, making the win a playful nod to a bit of history between the former couple.
Poehler is no stranger to the Golden Globes stage. She co-hosted the ceremony with friend and fellow Saturday Night Live alum Tina Fey for four telecasts, including three consecutive years from 2013–2015 and again in 2021. She also previously won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 2013 for her role as Leslie Knope on Parks and Recreation, having been nominated for the same award in 2011 and 2012.
The award caps a competitive selection process, which began with a controversial eligibility longlist that included polarizing figures such as Joe Rogan, Candace Owens, and Tucker Carlson. Ultimately, Poehler’s combination of star power, charisma, and the podcast’s mix of comedy and warmth earned her the historic win.
“Good Hang” is produced by Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions in partnership with Spotify’s The Ringer, led by Bill Simmons. The show emphasizes casual, laughter-driven conversations rather than advice or self-help, giving listeners a chance to “hang out” with Poehler and her guests.
