Karan Johar has expressed his happiness as Dhurandhar has become the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time. The Hindi box office has a new record-holder, and it has set off plenty of chatter. Dhurandhar,
led by Ranveer Singh, has crossed a major milestone, moving ahead of Pushpa 2: The Rise in Hindi collections and placing itself at the top of the charts.
Karan Johar took to Instagram and wrote, “Congratulations to Team Dhurandhar for being the no 1 film in Hindi! So incredibly deserving… My favourite film of the year!!!” For the unversed, Dhurandhar officially went past Pushpa 2’s Hindi-language total, making it the highest-grossing Hindi film so far, based on figures shared by the makers.
On Wednesday afternoon, Jio Studios, which produced the film, shared a poster declaring Dhurandhar as India’s highest-grossing Hindi film. The poster featured Ranveer Singh in a powerful pose and carried the message, “Thank you, India. Ganpati Bappa morya (Hail Lord Ganpati).”
The graphic also mentioned that the film’s net domestic collection after 33 days stands at Rs 831 crore. According to these figures, Dhurandhar has now crossed Pushpa 2’s Hindi total of Rs 821 crore, a record that had remained untouched since the Allu Arjun-starrer’s release. It should also be noted that, as per industry trackers, Dhurandhar’s Hindi collection as of Tuesday is closer to Rs 782 crore. By that count, the film needs around Rs 40 crore more to clearly move past Pushpa 2 on independent trade charts.
Meanwhile, Karan Johar has now praised the film several times. Recently, Karan Johar said at an event, “I was like, blown away by Dhurandhar. It makes you feel like, ‘Oh my craft is limited compared to this.’ Oh my god, look at the use of background music. Whatever anyone else feels, it is entirely their opinion, and I respect everyone’s opinions. What I loved about Dhurandhar was that I didn’t feel that the director was self-aware. I felt like he wasn’t trying to show off his craft, and yet he was seamlessly telling you the story.”
“I never felt he went wide or he went like I am going to show you a great frame. I just felt it was beautifully shot without self-awareness. It made me question my ability as a filmmaker, and that’s always a good thing for me. I look at that with a positive lens. So I began the year loving Saiyaara and ended the year loving Dhurandhar. I loved Lokah,” the filmmaker concluded.
