Before Sara Ali Khan became known for her fitness journey and disciplined lifestyle, her student days in New York looked very different. The actress recently opened up about her college food habits and admitted
that her life once revolved around pizzas, brownies and what she now describes as “mindless eating.”
In a candid conversation with Curly Tales, Sara recalled the phase that eventually pushed her towards a major physical transformation before her Bollywood debut in Kedarnath.
Sara Ali Khan Opens Up About Her ‘Mindless Eating’ Phase
Sara shared that while studying in New York, her food choices were often guided more by budget-friendly deals than health or nutrition. The actress revealed that she would frequently order two medium pizzas almost every day because the offer made it seem like a smarter purchase.
She said, “I used to study in New York. There, a large pizza was more expensive than two medium pizzas. Because there used to be a deal: if you buy one medium pizza, you get the second one for 50 percent off. So I didn’t realise that would also mean me becoming 50 percent more.”
Sara jokingly added that she clearly “didn’t do the math properly” at the time.
Sara Says She Ate Three Brownies For Breakfast
The pizza story was not the only surprising part of Sara’s college diet. The actress also revealed that her breakfast routine during that period was mostly built around chocolate chip brownies.
“My breakfast used to be three chocolate chip brownies,” she shared.
Sara said she would eat them while walking from her cafeteria to class. “It was a 5-minute walk. I used to walk for 7 minutes and eat three brownies. I’m not joking,” she added.
Looking back, Sara called the phase “mindless eating” and admitted that she was not really paying attention to what she was consuming or how much of it she was eating.

Sara later made a dramatic lifestyle shift before entering films. Ahead of her Bollywood debut in Kedarnath opposite Sushant Singh Rajput, the actress reportedly lost nearly 45 kg through regular workouts, diet changes and a more disciplined approach to fitness.
Over the years, Sara has often spoken about her transformation and her relationship with food, exercise and self-discipline. Her latest confession offers another glimpse into how different her life was before she became one of Bollywood’s most closely followed fitness inspirations.
