Gurugram is a city that attracts young professionals from all over India. The presence of multinational corporations, the youthful energy of the city and its proximity to Delhi are some of the reasons
many people are moving to Gurugram. However, the city is not without its flaws. A Redditor highlighted the negative aspects of Gurugram in a post, calling it the “most bitter” place they have ever lived in. The user explained why they ultimately left the city, citing its attitude towards tenants as its biggest minus point.
In their post, the user said that during their five years in the city, they found a lot of good points about Gurugram, such as its infrastructure and the opportunities one gets. However, the city had a lot of bias towards tenants, who are from different parts of India. The user said that this was a problem in other cities as well, but in Gurugram, the “bias against outsiders” felt stronger in comparison to other places. News18 could not independently verify the authenticity of the post.
Reddit Post Highlights Bias Against Tenants In Gurugram
The user alleged that the societies they lived in tended to “look down upon tenants” and think that renters were a “rootless bunch of people with no permanent addresses.”
“The societies and the RWA were also biased against tenants. I had faced situations where people would dump their garbage outside my door instead of using the dustbin, loud music parties/kirtans on weekdays till 5 am, my car’s body getting scratched with keys because I did not let a certain neighbour to park his scooty in my parking space. In none of the situations did I find help by placing a complaint with the RWA or at the society office,” the post read.
The user also highlighted how societies allow noisy interior work till 7 pm without any rules. The post also claimed that an apartment on top of the user allegedly ran a prostitution business, but tenant complaints on the matter went unheard as the girls in the apartment had “ties with the local mafia.”
“I had to change my apartment 3 times during my stay. But every time there were similar problems, where some neighbour would disturb on purpose. It is very sad that the majority of the local crowd have so much negativity towards outsiders. They forget the fact that tenants have to pay a chunk of their income to rent a decent place here. And if outsiders stop coming for jobs here, then how would they fill their pockets by renting apartments?” the post asked.
The reason why I left Gurgaon.

Reddit Post Sparks Debate
Many people agreed with the post and pointed out that such issues persisted in most gated societies in any city. “It’s better to find a builder floor or an independent house for rent,” a user advised.
Another claimed that tenants are facing issues in every part of the country and highlighted how Gurugram is cheaper compared to places like Mumbai and Bengaluru. “Gurgaon is a little better than a few of those hi-tech cities like: lower house rents than Blr & Mumbai, better roads than Blr & Mumbai, better connectivity and less traffic than Blr & Mumbai, etc.,” the user explained.
One user claimed, “Anyone calling Gurgaon or Delhi NCR a good place needs to get their head checked. The place and its people are rotten to the core.”
Another commented that Gurugram is “all about pure business, you can print a lot of money here, but happiness is something very hard to find as people here are missing empathy, culture and food, these things connect people with each other.”
The comments highlight how tenants face a variety of issues in metro cities, including bias from homeowners. For many, moving to a new city and job is the only way to get some breathing space from such problems. Most of all, it talked about the dark side of Gurugram, which many might forget in the glitz and skyscrapers towering over the city.
