Since its launch in 2023, the Amrit Bharat Express has been introduced on several busy routes, offering modern non-AC coaches designed to provide better comfort at affordable fares. However, when the train
began operating on long-distance routes, passengers quickly pointed out a noticeable shortcoming: the lack of a proper onboard food service.
Taking public feedback into account, Indian Railways has now introduced a dedicated pantry coach to make long journeys more convenient.
Recently, a content creator shared a walkthrough of the new non-AC pantry coach, giving viewers a closer look at how it functions. The coach is equipped with water purifiers and a hot boiler to ensure access to clean drinking water. It also features induction stoves along with chimneys to manage cooking fumes. Large refrigerators, a deep freezer, water coolers and storage space are also available.
Inside The New Non-AC Pantry Coach
Talking about the new coach, the content creator said, “This coach is not a First AC coach. It has non-AC windows, and the entire coach is non-AC. Actually, this is the pantry car coach of the Amrit Bharat Express, meant for non-AC coaches. Earlier, when the Amrit Bharat train was first introduced, it did not have a pantry car. Some of the initial trains had one, but later, a dedicated pantry car coach was added. Since this is also a long-distance train, this arrangement ensures that passengers get food and drinking facilities.”
“As soon as you enter, you can see two water purifiers installed, along with a hot boiler connected to them. This ensures that the water is fully purified and suitable for making tea. There are also three chimneys and three induction stoves, so that any smoke produced during cooking is properly removed. There are two large refrigerators, along with a deep freezer, plenty of storage space and water coolers as well. So, this is the pantry car coach of the Amrit Bharat Express, currently running with such modern equipment,” he adds.
The video posted on Instagram came with the caption, “New Pantry coach in Amrit Bharat trains with advance equipments.”
Features And Facilities On Amrit Bharat Express
According to the press release, the Amrit Bharat Express consists mainly of general coaches, along with two coaches that also carry luggage and include space for the guard. These coaches feature dedicated sections designed to accommodate passengers with disabilities. The train operates once a week and travels across multiple states, including Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Haryana. Ticket prices are kept affordable, costing around Rs 500 per 1,000 kilometres, with even lower fares for shorter journeys.
The train is equipped with several modern features aimed at improving safety and passenger comfort. The seats and berths have an upgraded design and finish, while the ladders are ergonomically designed to make climbing to the upper berths easier. It also uses a jerk-free coupling system and enhanced crash safety features. For added security, CCTV cameras have been installed across all coaches and luggage compartments.
Toilets have a cleaner and improved design, along with a fire safety system in the toilet and electrical areas. The train also has better LED lights and mobile charging points, including USB ports. A special talk-back system allows passengers to speak directly with the guard or train manager during emergencies.
