Singer Charlie Puth has publicly raised concerns regarding rocket launches near his home in Santa Barbara, California, saying the noise from recent launches was disturbing and frightening for his family.
In a post shared on X early Wednesday, Puth addressed Elon Musk, writing that the sonic booms linked to nearby launches had grown louder over time. He said one launch, which occurred around 3 AM (local time), shook his house and startled his pregnant wife.
Hi @elonmusk …these sonic booms have gotten progressively louder since they started launching the rockets in Santa Barbara. This one at 3am today felt like 150-160 dB, violently shook our whole house, and really frightened my pregnant wife. I hope they do not get louder :/

What Spacex Said About The Santa Barbara Sonic Booms
The official website of SpaceX had earlier noted that some residents in the region could hear sonic booms tied to a scheduled launch on December 10. As per the company, a Falcon 9 rocket lifted off at 3:40 AM PT from Vandenberg Space Force Base, carrying 27 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit.
SpaceX explained that the sound experienced on the ground can vary depending on weather and atmospheric conditions. The company said, “There was a possibility that residents of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura counties may have heard one or more sonic booms during the launch.”
They added that what the residents in the mentioned regions had experienced depended on the weather and other conditions.
Charlie Puth, Brooke Sansone Expecting Their First Baby
Puth and his wife, Brooke Sansone, recently announced that they are expecting their first child. The news was shared through the music video for Puth’s song Changes, released in October, which shows the couple standing together with their hands resting on Sansone’s stomach.
He later confirmed the pregnancy during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where he said the baby is due in March and joked that he hopes the child enjoys music.
What’s Next For Charlie Puth
Alongside the personal milestone, Puth has also been in the spotlight for professional reasons. He is set to perform the National Anthem at Super Bowl LX, a role that drew attention and some debate online. Addressing the reaction, Puth said he would approach the performance with care, noting that “I’ll never claim to be as good of a singer as Whitney Houston ever was,” but promised a carefully arranged version.
I’ll never claim to be as good of a singer as Whitney Houston ever was. But I assure you we’re putting a really special arrangement together- in D major. It’ll be one of my best vocal performances. https://t.co/N4POfitxhb
