SDM Ashish Joshi said 10,267 pilgrims visited Adi Kailash in May 2025. The number of visitors during the same month in 2024 and 2023 stood at 9,554 and 2,858 respectively.
Sources said the number of pilgrims to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat increased significantly after the prime minister visited the holy place in October 2023.
Pithoragarh DM Ashish Bhatgai said the Adi Kailash yatra has proved to be the biggest source of local employment for the people of this border region.
He added that the pilgrimage has helped in decreasing migration from border villages in this part of the Indo-China and Indo-Nepal borders, making the frontier villages vibrant.
The Adi Kailash yatra started on May 1 this year with the opening of the temples of Lord Shiva at Jolingkong. The pilgrimage will continue till October, depending on local weather conditions. PTI COR AKY PRK
