The house of former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan came under a petrol bomb attack in Bangladesh’s Magura district late Wednesday, hours after he joined deposed Prime Minister’s Sheikh Hasina’s virtually
addressed media interaction in New Delhi.
According to the Police, unidentified miscreants vandalised the premises before setting it ablaze. However, local reports claim that petrol bombs were also used to target the property.
A video shared by Sheikh Hasina’s Bangladesh Awami League (BAL) captures the attack as it unfolded. Posted on ‘X’, the footage –– seemingly recorded from a safe distance –– shows petrol bombs being hurled at Hasan’s residence while the sounds of a gathering crowd can be heard in the background.
In its post, the BAL sharply criticised the Tarique Rahman-led government of Bangladesh, describing it as “neo-fascist”. “Torching residences: the cost of attending Awami League press conference. Neo fascism engulfs Bangladesh”

“A grisly petrol bomb attack took place at the residence of Bangladesh’s celebrated cricket icon Sakib Al hasan, hours after the world famous star cricketer appeared at a press conference with honourable party president Sheikh Hasina”, the BAL said.
Sheikh Hasina’s party alleged that the attack was yet another testament to what it called a “genocidal campaign” against Awami League activists.
“Ahead of the press conference, BNP, Islamist Jamaat and NCP all publicly threatened national media outlets to weaponise judiciary to sue in case of reports of the press conferences. This calculated attack is yet another testament to ongoing genocidal campaign against Awami league activists in the name of democracy building project, hallmarks of fascism”, it said.
‘Loud Explosion-Like Sounds’
According to an India Today report, residents of the neighbourhood reported hearing loud explosion-like sounds during the attack.
