Hollywood gossip mills are buzzing again, and this time the spotlight is on a possible pairing of Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie. Reports suggest the two stars could headline an upcoming prequel to the popular
heist film Ocean’s 11, a project that is said to explore events set decades before the original story.
According to a report by Variety, Cooper is currently being considered for the lead role in the film. The project is believed to be set in Europe during the 1960s and would serve as a prequel to the modern franchise that began with the 2001 film starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts.
While discussions appear to be underway, there has been no official confirmation yet from Cooper or the film’s producers.
Robbie, who recently starred in the global hit Barbie, is also reportedly being considered for a key role in the film. If both actors sign on, they would lead the story set before the events of the 2001 movie.
In addition to acting, Cooper is also said to be in talks to take on duties behind the camera. Reports suggest he could produce and direct the project as well. Should that happen, it would mark his fourth feature film as a director.
The film has already seen changes behind the scenes. Filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung—known for directing Minari and Twisters—and director Jay Roach, who is associated with films like Meet The Parents and the Austin Powers series, had earlier been linked to the project but later stepped away. The reasons for their exit were not made public.
Beyond the prequel, there have also been discussions about expanding the franchise further. In a previous interview with Variety, Clooney revealed that another instalment could explore the idea of the characters returning later in life. He said, “There was something about the idea that we’re too old to do what we used to do, but we’re still smart enough to know how to get away with something, that just appeals to me.”
The upcoming prequel, if confirmed, is expected to explore the backstory of the world seen in the 2001 film, focusing on earlier events set in Europe during the 1960s.
