Alia Bhatt’s ode to Chai for her Wedding
On December 18, Vogue Magazine posted a video from the latest instalment of Life In Looks starring Alia Bhatt, where the star revisited her style evolution, from preppy beginnings to her chai-dipped wedding saree.
Talking about her wedding saree, Alia said, “I have said this time and again, but I feel so comfortable and myself in a saree. When I did my first Zoom call with Sabya, he asked, ‘What do you want to wear?’ and I said, “I am just so sure that I want to be comfortable and that I want to wear a saree.”

When Sabyasachi asked about the colour theme of her wedding saree, Alia replied that she wanted something in white and gold. “He (Sabyasachi) said, ‘Okay, let’s do it chai-dipped white, and we will do an organza saree because it is very simple and it looks really grand, you do not have to do much,’” recalled Alia Bhatt.
In a previous interview with Vogue, Alia further elaborated on her choice to wear a saree instead of a lehenga to her wedding. Ahe told the magazine, “I love a saree. It’s the most comfortable garment in the world, which is why I wore one for my wedding and not a lehenga.”
Talking about dressing up for your wedding as a woman, she went on to add, “You should celebrate the side of you that you feel is leading in that moment—whether that’s a saree, a super easy street-style vibe or an over-the-top gown. I believe the beauty of being a woman is that you can wear all these different clothes all the time. I can wear a pantsuit. I can wear a gown. One of the strongest aspects of this is that our wardrobe is so dynamic. I think that’s a great thing and one should celebrate it.”

Details about Alia Bhatt’s Custom Wedding Outfit
Elaborating further on the details of her special day, Alia Bhatt revealed that Sabyasachi also customised the saree based on a personal sentiment she shared with Ranbir.
“We had this long sort of train, he (Sabyasachi) personalised it with my wedding day and like a coat which said Mrs Hipster, which is like an inside thing between my husband and me,” Alia told the magazine.
The Jigra actress added that her gorgeous uncut diamond jewellery set also came from Sabyasachi’s collection. “I wanted a big neckpiece, big earrings, and maang tika,” said Alia.
Alia Bhatt complemented her fairytale-like saree with soft-glam makeup. Blushed cheeks, nude lips, and mascara-coated lashes, paired with soft, wavy hair worn loose, completed her bridal look.
One year after her wedding, Alia even rewore the ivory saree for another special occasion – to accept her National Award for Best Actress for Gangubai Kathiawadi.
