A teacher at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was shot dead by unidentified assailants on the university campus in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh on Wednesday night, police and university officials said.
The deceased
was identified as Rao Danish Ali, a teacher at the university’s ABK School. According to officials, he was shot in the head near the Maulana Azad Library area around 9 pm.
AMU Proctor Mohd. Wasim Ali said the university received information about a shooting near the library, following which the injured man was rushed for medical treatment. “We were informed that a man had been shot near the library and taken to the medical college. He was identified as Rao Danish Ali, a teacher at the ABK School. He was shot in the head and later died at the medical college,” he said.

According to reports, Ali was on his routine evening walk with two colleagues when he reached the canteen near the Maulana Azad Library. At that point, two assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Police reached the spot soon after the incident. Ali was taken to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, where he succumbed to his injuries. The motive behind the killing remains unknown.
Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadon confirmed that two unidentified men carried out the shooting. A detailed investigation has been launched, and police teams are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify and trace the attackers.
