Golgappas, also known as pani puri or puchka, are one of India’s most loved street snacks. Crisp shells, tangy water, spicy potato filling and a burst of flavour, all usually for loose change. That is why
a recent viral video showing two golgappas priced at Rs 100 has left social media users shocked, amused and annoyed in equal measure.
The video, shared by a food influencer, opens with him questioning the vendor about the unusually high price. The vendor stays tight-lipped, offering no long explanation. Instead, he calmly says the influencer should taste it first, insisting it will be worth it.
The preparation that caught everyone’s eye
The camera then shifts to the preparation. The vendor begins by placing two golgappas on a small foil plate. He gently cracks open each shell with his fingers, widening the opening. Next comes a piece of boiled potato as the filling. The vendor then reaches for a mix of greens for the stuffing. This mixture seems like chopped chillies, coriander and radish.
Then he stuffs a good amount of chunky and spicy crisps in the two golgappas.
Then comes the usual thick green chutney, letting it fall generously into the golgappa, followed by a deep red tamarind sauce poured over it.
He adjusts the filling, adds more chutney, and balances the flavours before moving on.

Price shock
For many viewers, the preparation only added to the disbelief. Golgappas are known for speed and affordability. Watching one vendor spend so much time on just two pieces, priced at Rs 100, felt strange to some and fascinating to others.
The influencer tastes the golgappas but doesn’t immediately reveal whether the price is justified, leaving viewers to form their own opinions.
Social media reacts
The comments section quickly turned into a debate zone. One user joked, “Future mein aa gaya,” suggesting the price belongs to another era altogether. Another wrote, “Actually meri salary 30 tareekh ko aayegi. Jab aayegi tab main pakka tumhare golgappe khaunga, warna abhi budget thoda tight hai,” summing up the mood with humour.
Others questioned whether street food should ever cost that much, while some defended the vendor, saying quality, ingredients and effort should matter too. A few viewers even admitted they were curious enough to try it, price notwithstanding.
