Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal franchise is one of India’s most loved comedies, and fans have been eagerly waiting for the next film, Golmaal 5. Ajay Devgn is all set to return in the next chapter along with Arshad
Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu and Shreyas Talpade. Now, as per the latest update, Akshay Kumar has also joined the film!
Akshay Kumar Joins Golmaal 5
According to Variety India, Akshay Kumar has been cast as the lead antagonist against Ajay Devgn in Golmaal 5. The film promises a grander scale and an even higher dose of chaos, while staying true to the humour that has defined the franchise since its first instalment, released in 2006. Golmaal 5 reportedly delves into fantasy elements, and offers a fresh narrative.
Akshay Kumar has been a part of three big comedy franchises in the past— Hera Pheri, Housefull, and Welcome. His addition to the Golmaal franchise is sure to be a treat for his fans. Meanwhile, the actor will also be seen as an antagonist in Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan, co-starring Saif Ali Khan. However, his antagonistic arcs in the two films are said to be polar opposites. Golmaal 5 will reportedly go on floors at the end of February in Mumbai’s Film City, and will likely release in early 2027. Akshay Kumar will join the sets of Golmaal 5 after wrapping up Anees Bazmee’s comedy film with Vidya Balan.
Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu and Shreyas Talpade, Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari and Ashwini Kalsekar are set to return in Golmaal 5. However, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s casting hasn’t yet been confirmed. Sharman Joshi will also likely return to the film.
Golmaal 5 Shoot To Begin Under Tight Two-Tier Security
In other news, gunshots were fired at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai on Sunday. Mumbai Police has already stepped up protection at his home, and now similar precautions are set to extend to the sets of his upcoming film, Golmaal 5. According to sources cited by Mid-Day, security deployment is being planned well in advance, even as the production team awaits final clarity on shoot schedules. If the shoot proceeds as planned, an elaborate security setup will be put in place. Around 60 security personnel are expected to be deployed on set, operating within a two-tier system — one layer comprising local police and another consisting of Shetty’s personal security team.
Meanwhile, Shetty’s other directorial — a biopic on former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria starring John Abraham — has hit a temporary pause. The film had gone on floors in April 2025 and was last shot in South Mumbai.
