Is a Shah Rukh Khan-Vishal Bhardwaj collaboration on the cards next? Vishal Bhardwaj is among the most iconic directors in Bollywood who has worked with stars like Irrfan Khan, Tabu and Shahid Kapoor,
to name a few. However, he has yet to work with superstar Shah Rukh Khan, despite many attempts. In a recent chat, he opened up about wanting to work with SRK.
Vishal Bhardwaj, in a conversation with ANI, said, “I think it (collaboration) has to happen. Main saal mein Shah Rukh se kitni baari kitni stories ke liye baat karta hun (I talk to Shah Rukh so many times throughout the year for so many stories). He always responds to my message, and he’s a lovely person. He’s the greatest charmer of our country.”
“Who doesn’t love Shah Rukh Khan? Let me put it that way. Everyone loves him. And there has to be something so beautiful in him as a person, also, that makes him Shah Rukh Khan. Maine unhe iss film (O Romeo) ke dauran bhi ek kahani bheji hui hai aur woh bhi humesha bolte hai ki, ‘Yaar ek film toh honi chayie jo hum dono ko saath mein karni chayie’, but definitely, there has to be one film between Shah Rukh and me. Inshallah, is baar woh miracle ho jaye (I had even sent him a story during O Romeo, and he always says, ‘There should be a film that we do together’),” he added.
Meanwhile, Vishal Bharadwaj’s O’Romeo, starring Shahid Kapoor in the lead, was released in theatres on Thursday, February 13. In the film, Shahid Kapoor essays the role of Ustara, while Triptii Dimri plays Afshan. The ensemble cast also features Disha Patani, Vikrant Massey, Farida Jalal, Hussain Dalal, Nana Patekar, Tamannaah Bhatia and Avinash Tiwary in pivotal roles. O’Romeo marks the fourth collaboration between Shahid and Vishal after acclaimed films like Kaminey, Haider and Rangoon.
The story draws inspiration from a chapter of Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Set against the backdrop of Mumbai’s underworld, the narrative follows gangster Haseen Ustara (Shahid) and his intense, complicated relationship with Afsha (Triptii). The film explores themes of love, violence and emotional turmoil, weaving together romance and crime in a dramatic arc.
