An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 struck the Leh region of Ladakh on Monday morning, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
As per the NCS, the earthquake occurred at 11.51.14 IST at a depth
of 171 kilometres.
The tremor was recorded at latitude 36.71 degrees North and longitude 74.32 degrees East.
In a post on X, the National Centre for Seismology said, “EQ of M: 5.7, On: 19/01/2026 11:51:14 IST, Lat: 36.71 N, Long: 74.32 E, Depth: 171 Km, Location: Leh, Ladakh.”

There were no immediate reports of loss of life or damage to property following the earthquake.
The tremor in Ladakh comes amid a series of recent seismic activities reported across neighbouring regions in South and Southeast Asia.
Earlier on Sunday evening, an earthquake of magnitude 4.0 struck Afghanistan, as reported by the National Centre for Seismology.
According to the NCS, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres at 20.30 IST on January 18.
Earlier on Sunday morning, another earthquake of magnitude 4.1 was reported in Afghanistan.
The NCS said the quake occurred at 07.05.58 IST on January 18 at a depth of 10 kilometres.
Prior to this, on January 15, an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 struck Afghanistan at a depth of 96 kilometres.
Afghanistan frequently experiences earthquakes, particularly in the Hindu Kush region, which lies in a highly active seismic zone.
Shallow earthquakes are generally considered more dangerous than deep earthquakes, as seismic waves from shallow tremors have a shorter distance to travel to the surface, resulting in stronger ground shaking.
