In Dubai, luxury is not just a lifestyle; it’s brewed into every cup. And now, one cafe in the city has taken indulgence to an entirely new level. Julith Café, located in an industrial neighbourhood that
has quietly become a hotspot for coffee enthusiasts, is serving what it claims to be the world’s most expensive cup of coffee. It is priced at nearly $1,000 (around Rs 89,000) for a single serving.
One cup of this rare cup of coffee will cost you almost a year’s worth of your daily Starbucks lattes. But Julith Café insists it’s worth every drop. The secret lies in the beans, Nido 7 Geisha, a rare and premium strain of coffee grown on the volcanic slopes of Mount Baru in western Panama. The beans are prized for their floral aroma and delicate sweetness.
“The wait is finally over. The world’s most celebrated and highest graded coffee of all time has arrived at Julith,” said Serkan Sagsoz, co-founder of the café, in a Facebook video unveiling the pricey beverage.
Price For Coffee Beans
The Julith team purchased the beans at a Panama auction, which turned into a fierce bidding war which lasted for several hours. In the end, the Dubai café emerged victorious, paying $ 600,000 (around Rs 5 crore) for just 20 kilograms of the beans, setting a record for the highest price ever paid for coffee.
According to AFP, Julith plans to serve around 400 cups of the precious brew. At roughly $1,000 per cup, it is both a bold business move and a reflection of Dubai’s unending appetite for poshness. “We felt Dubai was the perfect place for our investment,” Sagsoz told the outlet.
How Does It Taste
About the taste, Sagsoz explained, “There are white floral notes like jasmine, citrus flavours like orange and bergamot, and a hint of apricot and peach, adding, “It’s like honey, delicate and sweet.”
Before launching Julith, Sagsoz ran a café in Turkey but this new venture is a blend of luxury experience and showcasing of craftsmanship. Reportedly, the luxe beverage also secured a place in the Guinness World Records for the most expensive cup of coffee across the globe. For those lucky and of course wealthy enough to try it, Julith’s expensive cup is more than just coffee, it’s a statement.
‘That’s Just Plain Stupid’
While coffee specialists may be intrigued, not everyone online is impressed. The internet had plenty to say about the price tag and the reactions brewed faster than an espresso shot. “You would have to be brainless to buy coffee for $1000,” one viewer commented. Another wrote bluntly, “That’s just plain stupid.” Someone else said, “As a daily coffee drinker, this doesn’t excite me at all.” Another joked, “What makes that coffee so expensive? Was it created by James Bond, sprinkled with magic dust, flown for five hours, and makes you look irresistible for three hours? WTF!”
