Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced a set of six guarantees for West Bengal, asserting that the BJP government would take firm action against illegal infiltration and strengthen law and order
in the state.
“Illegal infiltrators will be driven out,” PM Modi said during an election rally in Haldia, placing the issue at the centre of his political pitch.
He claimed that the state requires decisive governance to deal with challenges related to security, corruption and administrative accountability.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence in political change in the state, saying, “Bengal has decided to overcome every adverse situation this time,” and added, “Change is going to happen across the whole of Bengal.”
He further stated that “the exit of this ruthless government is certain,” launching a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).
SIX GUARANTEES FOR WEST BENGAL
Outlining what he described as six guarantees, the Prime Minister said the BJP would ensure strict implementation of law and accountability if voted to power.
“Kanoon ki guarantee,” PM Modi said, promising that governance would be based on the rule of law and transparency.
He said a BJP government would be fully accountable and would pursue pending cases linked to corruption and crimes against women.
“Every corruption case and every rape case file will be opened,” he said, adding, “No TMC gunda will be spared from the law for their corruption.”
Among the assurances, PM Modi also promised the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission for West Bengal government employees.
He accused the TMC of weakening institutions and claimed the party’s governance approach is rooted in intimidation.
“TMC’s politics is based on fear, their entire political approach revolves around creating fear,” he said, alleging that the ruling party operates a “syndicate of gundaraj.”
ATTACK ON TMC OVER GOVERNANCE AND ECONOMY
Continuing his criticism of the TMC government, PM Modi alleged that the state has suffered economically and administratively.
“TMC is dragging Bengal down,” he said, claiming that corruption and criminal protection have become entrenched in the system.
PM Modi also alleged that illegal activities such as cattle smuggling have flourished under the current dispensation.
“TMC has developed a cattle smuggling industry,” he said, adding that the party’s manifesto amounts to “looting the state.”
He further claimed that private sector investment has declined in West Bengal and alleged that fishermen in the state have been neglected.
“Mamata betrayed fishermen in Bengal,” he said.
Referring to fish production growth in Assam, PM Modi said, “Ten years ago, Assam used to import fish from other states, but today it not only meets its own fish requirements but also exports fish to other states.”
He added that central schemes face resistance in the state due to political considerations.
“This increase in fish production has been significantly supported by the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana. However, they have a problem with it because it carries the ‘PM’ tag,” he said.
“TMC leaders may hate me, but in that hatred, they haven’t even spared the word ‘PM,’” PM Modi added.
LAW AND ORDER AND WOMEN’S SAFETY
Highlighting safety concerns, the Prime Minister alleged an increase in crimes against women during the TMC’s tenure.
“In TMC’s 15 years, the graph of crimes against women has been rising,” he said, adding that the BJP government prioritises dignity and protection for women.
“BJP gives respect to mothers and sisters,” PM Modi said, while accusing the TMC government of giving protection to criminals.
RALLY DELAYED DUE TO BAD WEATHER
According to news agency PTI, the Prime Minister arrived in Haldia nearly two hours behind schedule due to inclement weather conditions affecting parts of southern West Bengal, including Kolkata.
The rain since morning had left the helipad in Haldia filled with sludge, contributing to the delay.
The meteorological department has predicted that weather conditions are expected to improve later in the day.
Haldia is considered politically significant as it falls within the stronghold of Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and is among the BJP’s key bases in the Purba Medinipur district.
The rally is seen as important for the BJP’s efforts to maintain its political influence in the region, which has emerged as a central battleground in its contest with the TMC.
