BJP leader and Jharkhand MLA Babulal Marandi on Monday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his letter to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren concerning students protesting in the state.
Marandi
questioned why Rahul Gandhi had written to the Chief Minister when Congress is part of the Hemant Soren-led government in Jharkhand. He accused the party of trying to remain in power while also taking the position of an opposition party.
‘Congress In Govt, Rahul Gandhi Writing Letters’
Marandi said Congress is a partner in the Jharkhand government, but Gandhi’s letter appeared to suggest that he was advising a government outside his own political alliance.
In a post on X, Marandi wrote, “Wow @rahulgandhi ji! Writing a letter to your own coalition government to express concern for students—is this the new model of politics?”
He questioned the Congress leadership over its approach, saying the party should put pressure on its own government if students’ concerns were not being addressed.
“In Jharkhand, Congress is a partner in power in Hemant Soren’s government, but Rahul Gandhi has written such a letter to the Chief Minister as if he’s advising some other government from Delhi,” Marandi said.
‘Students On Streets For 23 Days’
Marandi also referred to the ongoing student protest in Jharkhand. He said students had been on the streets for 23 days and were sitting on a hunger strike, but Congress had raised the issue only now through a letter to the Chief Minister.
“Jharkhand’s students have been on the streets for 23 days, sitting on a fast unto death, but it has only now occurred to Congress that they should write a letter to the Chief Minister,” he said.
Marandi asked why Congress was not putting pressure on the Hemant Soren government directly if the government was not listening to the protesting students.
He accused the party of wanting to remain in government while also playing the role of the opposition.
“They want to stay in power and also play the opposition role… after all, how can both happen together?” he said.
‘Students Need Justice, Not Letters’
Marandi said the students were seeking justice rather than correspondence between political leaders.
“Students on the streets, Congress in government, and Rahul Gandhi in letters! There couldn’t be a better example of shirking responsibility and putting on a political show,” he said.
He then called on Gandhi to press the Jharkhand government to address the students’ demands.
“Rahul Gandhi ji, students don’t need letters—they need justice,” Marandi wrote.
CBI Probe Into JPSC-JSSC Rigging
Marandi said the students were demanding a CBI investigation into alleged rigging in JPSC-JSSC.
He argued that since Congress is part of the Jharkhand government, Gandhi also has a responsibility to ensure that the demand for a CBI investigation is addressed.
“It’s your responsibility too to get this demand fulfilled from your own government,” Marandi said.
