American multinational electronics manufacturing major Jabil has stepped forward to provide advanced electronics training at select Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Maharashtra, marking a significant
push to strengthen skill-based education and job readiness among the state’s youth.
A delegation from Jabil met Maharashtra’s Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha at his office on Tuesday, where the company outlined its plan to establish modern electronics laboratories in chosen ITIs. The initiative aims to give students hands-on exposure to global-standard technology and practical skills that align with industry needs.
Minister Lodha assured the company of full cooperation from the state government, stressing that skill development remains a key priority under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. “Our focus is on making young people job-ready and capable of self-employment. Bringing the latest global technology into ITIs is an important step in that direction,” he said.
During the meeting, Jabil Managing Director BN Shukla and the company’s Human Resources Head Gundurao Patil discussed a range of measures with the Skill Development Department. These include setting up state-of-the-art electronics labs, training ITI instructors, and designing courses that prepare students for real industrial environments. The discussions also covered creating pathways for suitable employment opportunities for trained students. Officials said the proposed training will follow an “industry-ready” approach, ensuring that students gain skills that match current manufacturing and electronics sector requirements. This is expected to improve their employability and reduce the gap between classroom learning and workplace expectations.
Minister Lodha said the Skill Development Department would extend all necessary support to Jabil for the successful rollout of the programme. He also noted that the government plans to encourage more companies to participate in similar initiatives, expanding the reach of employment-focused training across Maharashtra.
“The goal is not limited to one partnership. We want more industries to come forward so that large-scale, practical training can be offered to students across the state,” Lodha added.
Director of the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training, Madhavi Sardeshmukh, was also present at the meeting and briefed the Jabil delegation on the various courses currently being offered at ITIs in Maharashtra.
Officials believe the collaboration will benefit thousands of trainees by giving them access to modern technology and industry exposure, helping them build stronger careers in the fast-growing electronics sector.
