AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced that he will join the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10 along with his family, and urged people from across the country
to take part.
Calling the demonstration a matter concerning the country rather than any one political party, Kejriwal appealed to people to gather at Jantar Mantar in large numbers.
“I appeal to everyone, to the people of the entire country, to gather at Jantar Mantar in maximum numbers. This is not about one person or party; it is about the nation,” he said.
Kejriwal also alleged that voter lists were being manipulated and accused the BJP of deleting votes of people who do not support the party and adding “fake votes”. He held Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar responsible for what he described as the alleged irregularities.
“Whoever does not vote for BJP has their vote deleted, fake votes are added, and all this was happening openly under Gyanesh Kumar. The entire country is demanding his resignation,” he said.
What Is The October 10 Protest?
The CJP and student groups have called the October 10 demonstration to demand the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar and raise concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The organisers have also raised demands linked to alleged electoral irregularities and changes to the election process.
Delhi Police, however, has denied permission for the protest, citing the short notice given by organisers, alleged violations during an earlier demonstration and concerns over public safety and traffic management. Section 163 of the BNSS is also in force in the New Delhi area.
Security has been stepped up across Delhi ahead of the proposed demonstration, with restrictions also affecting public transport. The Supreme Court is separately hearing concerns over measures that could completely disrupt train and Metro services.
