A Singapore-bound Air India flight returned to Delhi early on Thursday after the aircraft developed a technical problem. The Dreamliner aircraft was carrying around 190 passengers when the issue was detected.
Sources said the aircraft received an APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) fire warning shortly after take-off. As a safety measure, the pilot decided to turn back to Delhi.
The plane had been airborne for around one hour before landing safely at the national capital at about 1 am, as per flight tracking website Flightradar24.
The flight, AI 2380, was operated using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. All passengers and crew were reported to be safe after the precautionary return. There were no reports of injuries or further complications.
When contacted, an Air India spokesperson confirmed the incident. The spokesperson said that the operating crew decided to return to Delhi shortly after take-off due to a suspected technical issue.
“The aircraft landed safely in Delhi. Our ground teams at Delhi extended all necessary assistance to passengers and the flight departed for Singapore on an alternative aircraft,” the statement said.
