Singer Sonu Nigam recently opened up about Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, and expressed admiration for him. Having lent his voice to many of SRK’s iconic songs, Sonu Nigam revealed that he is a very
special man, and that he always acknowledges and gives credit to others. He said that in the industry, singers are hardly ever mentioned even when others win awards for their songs. However, Shah Rukh Khan has never held back in praising him, and giving him credit, despite being such a huge superstar.
In a conversation with Faridoon Shahryar, Sonu Nigam said, “Shah Rukh Khan bohot bada aadmi hai. Bohot special hai. Wo bhi Delhi se hi aaya tha. Apne field mein to wo raja ban gaya. Unki aankhon mein dikhega aapko ki banda mehnati hai. Aur sabse achhi baat ye hai ki Shah Rukh Khan se zyada achha behave karta hua meine koi actor dekha nahi hai. Mainstream mein koi. Jinko haq hai akadne ka. Shah Rukh Khan se achha maine humble, aur gregarious tareef karne mein. Aamir se meri ab dosti hui hai. Aamir bohot ache aadmi hain. Shah Rukh kai saal se lage hain. (Shah Rukh Khan is a very big personality. He’s truly special. He also came from Delhi, just like me. And in his field, he became a king. You can see it in his eyes — he’s a hardworking man. And the best thing about him is that I’ve never seen an actor in mainstream cinema who behaves as well as Shah Rukh Khan does. Especially someone who has every right to have an ego. When it comes to being humble and generous with praise, I haven’t seen anyone better than Shah Rukh Khan. I’ve recently become friends with Aamir Khan too, and he’s a wonderful person. But Shah Rukh has been consistent for years).”
He further added, “He has always given credit to me. Koi zarurat nahi thi. ‘I am whatever I am because of Sonu’s songs.’ Itne bade aadmi tum khud ho yaar. Tumhe kya zaroorat hai? Log bohot mushkil se credit dete hain kisiko. SRK ne kabhi koi kasar hi nahi chhodi mujhe credit dene mein. (He has always given me credit. He had no need to — he once said, ‘I am whatever I am because of Sonu’s songs.’ I mean, come on, you’re Shah Rukh Khan. You don’t have to say that. Most people find it hard to give credit to others. But SRK never held back).”
Sonu Nigam added that he appreciates this about Shah Rukh Khan, especially because people in the industry don’t usually credit others. “SRK never held back, and I truly appreciate that. Because I’ve seen how small-hearted people can be when it comes to acknowledging others. Singers like us sing the songs, and others get awards for them- and they don’t even mention the singer’s name. That’s the reality,” he added.
Shah Rukh Khan and Sonu Nigam have collaborated on several iconic songs over the years, including Kal Ho Naa Ho, Suraj Hua Maddham, Main Agar Kahoon, Do Pal, Tumhi Dekho Na, Deewangi Deewangi, Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai, Yeh Dil Deewana, Satrangi Re, Tumse Milke Dil Ka Hai Jo Haal, among others.
