A ceiling collapse at the Government Higher Secondary School in Melathur, near Somangalam close to Tambaram in Chennai, has sparked concern after a Class 11 student was injured in the incident.

Injured After Ceiling Falls On Her- The student, Joymercy, a Class 11 student at the school, was inside the classroom when a portion of the ceiling suddenly collapsed and fell on her head.
She sustained a head injury and was taken to a private hospital for treatment, where she received five stitches.
44 Students In Class, But Student Was Alone During Incident
The classroom has 44 students. The incident occurred during the lunch break, when the other students had gone outside.
Joymercy had remained inside the classroom while stacking books when the ceiling suddenly collapsed. Since the other students were outside at the time, a potentially larger accident was avoided.
Police, Education Officials Begin Investigation
Following the incident, Somangalam police and education department officials are conducting an investigation into the ceiling collapse and the circumstances surrounding the student’s injury.
Headmaster Accused Of Trying To Conceal Incident
Further allegations have emerged that the school’s headmaster allegedly attempted to prevent information about the injured student from becoming public.
According to the allegations, the headmaster sent Joymercy to a private hospital for treatment and attempted to conceal the incident without informing the police.
The allegations are now part of the investigation being conducted by the police and education department officials.
