Emraan Hashmi’s fans have been waiting with bated breaths for the release of Awarapan 2. The sequel is releasing 19 years after the first film Awarapan (2007) hit the theatres. The teaser of Awarapan 2 was
recently unveiled by the makers, and it offered a glimpse of his character Shivam Pandit’s journey. It instantly took fans back to the world of the original film, leaving many feeling nostalgic. Now, after the love showered by fans on Awarapan 2 teaser, Emraan has penned a note of gratitude, thanking them for the continued love for the franchise nearly two decades later.
Emraan Hashmi Says Awarapan Has Never Been Just A Film For Him
On Tuesday, Emraan Hashmi took to Instagram to share a collage featuring two images—one of his character Shivam Pandit from the original film, and another showing his recent glimpse from the Awarapan 2 teaser. In his caption, he wrote, “Awarapan has never been just a film for me — it’s been 19 years of carrying Shivam with me, wherever I went.”
He further expressed his gratitude to fans. “Thank you for rooting for him, for this grand and loving welcome, and for opening your hearts to everyone who’s joined the journey since. Watching this family grow with you has been the best part of all of this. #Awarapan2,” he wrote.

About Awarapan 2
Awarapan 2 is the sequel to Emraan Hashmi and Mohit Suri’s 2007 cult crime drama Awarapan. The first teaser was released on the film’s 19th anniversary. The film is directed by Nitin Kakkar, known for Filmistaan and Jawaani Jaaneman, and written by Bilal Siddiqi.
The teaser of Awarapan 2 opens with Shivam Pandit’s mysterious return after his apparent death at the end of the first film. He reflects through a voiceover on how some stories are not in one’s control, hinting at a deeper fate at play.
The teaser also shows him visiting Aaliyah’s grave, while struggling with his uneasy relationship with life and death. The teaser shows Shivam pushing himself through brutal fights and emotional turmoil, before ending on his powerful line: “Iss baar ya to ye Awarapan khatam hoga ya main.”
Apart from Emraan, the film also stars Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi. The film is slated for a grand theatrical release on August 14, 2026.
